New Riders

If you are joining us for the first time...

Visitors are very welcome - it costs nothing to join our rides. We have on-road and off-road rides every Sunday and on summer Wednesday evenings. There are on-road rides each Tuesday. Regular riders are expected to be members of the CTC.

While there will be many willing hands to help with any mechanical problems, all participants should carry a basic toolkit, including puncture repair kit, and a pump.

All our rides are planned and led by experienced cyclists mostly on quiet rural roads and lanes. More information is available from the ride leaders whose phone numbers are included in the rides lists or from the runs secretary.

Most Sunday rides are "day rides" and in winter months aim to get back before dark (usually a stop for morning coffee on moderate and brisk rides). You'll see from the site that they range from 20-100 miles (or more....). We aim never to leave anybody behind, but it is less stressful if you can estimate the sort of pace that's comfortable. It's difficult to be precise about pace because it depends on various things (weather, terrain and the particular cyclists), but as a guide (actual riding pace, not including stops).

You can phone the leader for more details.

Start points of rides vary, details here.

You may find the guidelines for on road runs helpful.

We can also suggest local areas that you can try by yourself! Contact us.

If you'd like to find out more about the CTC, check out the national site at www.ctc.org.uk. There are many benefits from CTC membership, apart from the activities of the local group, including:

Joining is not expensive. Why not take a look at www.ctc.org.uk and click on Membership?

Off Road Riding

We are a very friendly group of off-road cyclists, we meet every Sunday (and Wednesday during the summer) to explore the local countryside, away from the roads and traffic, using the bridleway networks. We find a good pub for lunch, and then work our way home again.

You need a mountain bike in good working order, a helmet, a pair of fit, strong legs and a good sense of fun and adventure.

The rides are lead by experienced off-road cyclists, with good knowledge of the local trails and good map reading skills. We also organise weekends away where we hunt out the best off-road in the area and have a lot of fun.

You are all welcome to come and join in, we cater for all abilities, and rides go as fast as the slowest cyclist.

For more information on off-road cycling around the Reading area, contact our offroad co-ordinator.
